An investment-based residence permit in Azerbaijan is a special type of permit granted to foreign citizens who make investments in the country. It is considered one of the most common and convenient ways to legalize one’s stay. This permit not only provides the right to reside in Azerbaijan but also highlights the country as an attractive destination with highly profitable investment opportunities. That is why every year, thousands of foreigners invest in Azerbaijan and, at the same time, apply for an investment-based residence permit.

If you are planning to invest in Azerbaijan and obtain a residence permit based on your investment, you have several options to choose from:

  • Investment in real estate in Azerbaijan

Foreign nationals who invest at least AZN 100,000 (about USD 59,000) in Azerbaijani real estate are eligible to obtain an Azerbaijan residence permit by investment. At first, qualifying investors can receive a temporary residence permit valid for up to one year, which may subsequently be extended in two-year increments. This option covers investments in both commercial and residential properties.

In addition, it should be noted that obtaining a Permanent Residence Permit through real estate investment requires a minimum investment of AZN 200,000 (around USD 120,000).

  • Investment in the country’s economy

Foreign nationals who invest a minimum of AZN 500,000 (around USD 295,000) in Azerbaijan’s economy are eligible to obtain a residence permit for up to three years. This investment may take different forms, such as contributions to business sectors or the purchase of commercial real estate.

It is important to highlight that the required investment threshold remains the same for both Temporary and Permanent Residence Permits.

  • Securities Investment

Foreign nationals who invest at least AZN 100,000 (around USD 59,000) in state securities may also obtain an Azerbaijan residence permit by investment. Meeting this requirement allows investors to obtain a temporary residence permit valid for one year.

To qualify, the investment must be placed in the securities of legal entities in which the state owns 51% or more of the shares or interests.

As with real estate investments, the minimum investment threshold for obtaining a Permanent Residence Permit through securities is AZN 200,000 (approximately USD 120,000).

  • Deposit in Banks

Foreign investors may obtain a residence permit in Azerbaijan by placing a minimum deposit of AZN 100,000 (approximately USD 59,000) in a local bank under a term deposit agreement. The initial residence permit issued on this basis is valid for one year and may be renewed for subsequent two-year periods.

Funds can be deposited in either local or foreign currency, although deposits in the national currency generally provide higher annual interest rates of about 10–12%.

As with other investment-based options, securing a Permanent Residence Permit through bank deposits requires a minimum investment of AZN 200,000 (around USD 120,000).
